MITCHELL — Winner Area’s Gracie Root won a sudden death playoff on Wednesday to claim medalist honors at the Region 3A girls golf meet at Lakeview Golf Course.
Root and Chamberlain’s Alexis Cronk each shot rounds of 89 in the 18-hole rounds, but Root emerged victorious in the playoff and helped lead the way for the Warriors to claim the team title, as well. Winner won the team points race with a score of 400, followed by Chamberlain at 434 and Mobridge-Pollock at 449.
Chamberlain’s Trey Speer shot a round of 96 for the Cubs, finishing in a tie for third place with Mobridge-Pollock’s Cadee Peltier. Gracie Oakley, of Parkston, was fifth with a score of 98.
Winner had five total finishers in the top-10, including Rylee Root in sixth place (101), Kelbi Meiners in seventh (104) and Devan Dougherty in ninth (106). Leila Balisger, of Winner, took 12th place and was among the state qualifiers in the top half of the 24-player field.
Other area state qualifiers included Parkston’s Kayla Neugebauer, who was eighth with a score of 104 and Chamberlain’s Natalie Kelsey, who was 10th with a score of 107.
