MITCHELL — With the winter storm bringing ice, snow and wind across much of the state, much of the prep sports events have been postponed or canceled.
Here’s a list of the games and contests that have been affected:
Wrestling
- The Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney Titan Invite in Plankinton has been canceled for 2022. There is no scheduled make-up date.
- The Sioux Falls Washington wrestling tournament will proceed on Saturday, with Mitchell scheduled to be in action at that event.
- The Sioux Valley wrestling tournament scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. Mitchell was previously scheduled to particpate.
Gymnastics
- The Jill McCormick Invitational has been pushed back and will now start at noon, still taking place on Saturday, Dec. 17. The event will take place at the MEGA Gymnastics center, rather than at MHS. Huron, Watertown, Yankton, O'Gorman and Harrisburg will join Mitchell on the competition floor in a smaller event than the original 11-school plan.
Basketball
- Mitchell’s boys and girls games against Rapid City Stevens and Rapid City Central for the weekend were postponed. No make-up date has been determined.
- Corsica-Stickney’s doubleheader with Avon has been changed to a 2 p.m. start time on Saturday, Dec. 17.
- Avon’s doubleheader against Centerville that was originally slated to be played on Thursday, Dec. 15, has been pushed back with a make-up date yet to be announced.
- Hanson’s contests against Menno have been moved back to Saturday, Dec. 17, with the girls scheduled to start at 3 p.m. and the boys set to tip at 4:30 p.m. in Alexandria.
- Bridgewater-Emery’s boys game against Menno, originally scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 15, has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at 5:15 p.m.
- Platte-Geddes’ boys game against Burke, which was postponed from Thursday, Dec. 15, has been moved to Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, as part of a girls-boys doubleheader in Burke.
- The Platte-Geddes’ girls game at Gregory has been rescheduled from Friday, Dec. 16, to be part of a girls-boys doubleheader on Monday Jan. 16, 2023 in Gregory.
