MITCHELL — While winter weather continues to delay the beginning of the outdoor track and field season, the Mitchell High School program has added an indoor meet to its schedule.

MHS will host a meet with teams and events to be determined on Thursday, April 6, at Dakota Wesleyan University's Corrigan Fieldhouse. The new indoor meet takes the place of a canceled meet in Huron that Mitchell had been scheduled to attend on the same date. The Kernels will also miss out on the indoor Eastern South Dakota Conference meet, which had been slated for Saturday, April 1, in Brookings before cancellation.

MHS boys tennis has canceled a home dual against St. Thomas More previously scheduled for April 6.

The debut of MHS softball has been pushed back again, as the Kernels were slated to visit Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Monday, April 3, and host Sioux Falls Washington on Tuesday, April 4, but both dates have been postponed.

A Mitchell Middle School home track meet against Brandon Valley on April 4 has also been postponed.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
