Video: Salem hosts South Dakota high school powerlifting state meet

The quickly growing club sport had its third annual state meet in a packed gym on Saturday

SALEM, S.D. — A burgeoning club sport in South Dakota and at the high school level, nearly 350 of the state's best powerlifters converged on Salem for the South Dakota State High School Powerlifting Championships at McCook Central High School.

Championships were awarded in the squat, bench and deadlifts, along with individual combination and team scores.

It is the third year that South Dakota's powerlifting community has sponsored a high school championship meet, with it arriving in Salem for the first time.
