MITCHELL — A big fourth quarter for Freeman proved costly for the Mitchell Christian boys basketball team.
MCS held a 34-31 advantage through three quarters, but Freeman outscored the Golden Eagles 18-8 in the final frame, coming away with a 49-42 win at Mitchell Christian School.
Aiden Lieber was the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles in the loss, posting 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds, three steals and an assist. Syver Enga chipped in seven points on 3-for-5 shooting, as well.
The Golden Eagles turned the ball over 22 times in the defeat and shot 3 of 16 (18.8%) from 3-point range, despite shooting 52.2% (12 of 23) from inside the arc. Lieber, Enga and Nahum Anderberg all connected on a 3-pointer, each one of them going 1-for-2 from behind the arc.
The loss dropped MCS to 4-6 on the season and snapped a four-game winning streak, while the Flyers moved to 3-9 with the win. The Golden Eagles’ next contest comes on the road against Class B No. 5-ranked Ethan on Thursday, Jan. 26, and Freeman hosts Avon on Friday, Jan. 27.
