MITCHELL — The Region 5B girls basketball semifinals scheduled for Thursday at the Corn Palace will be played Saturday afternoon.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, top-seeded Andes Central/Dakota Christian will play Corsica-Stickney, followed by No. 2 Wessington Springs and No. 3 Gregory at 2:30 p.m.

The winners will move ahead to the Class B SoDak 16 state-qualifying round, which will take place on Thursday, March 2.

The changes come as much of South Dakota battles a blizzard with more than a foot of snow expected throughout the state.

Other girls basketball playoff changes include in Region 5A, where Wagner and Mount Vernon/Plankinton will play at 3 p.m. Saturday in Wagner, while Hanson will head to Parkston for a game at the same time.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
