Mount Vernon/Plankinton boys finish in eighth place at Class A tourney

Mount Vernon/Plankinton's season came to an end on Saturday in the Class A state tournament's seventh-place game.

SIOUX FALLS — Mount Vernon/Plankinton's season came to an end on Saturday in the Class A state boys basketball tournament's seventh-place game, with Hot Springs winning 60-50 at the Premier Center.

The Titans never quite found their rhythm offensively, finishing 15-for-40 from the field and shooting 33.3% in the second half, including a 1-for-14 day from 3-point territory. The Titans' season ends at 18-8, while Hot Springs wraps the campaign at 20-6.

MVP led 15-11 after one quarter after trailing 7-1 in the opening minutes but the Bison held a 29-26 halftime lead. The game was tied twice in the early stages of the second half before Hot Springs ended the quarter on a 10-3 run for a 44-37 lead and the Bison did not let MVP get closer over the final 5 minutes of the game.

For Hot Springs, Josh Kleinsasser finished with 21 points and nine rebounds. Matt Close had 15 points for the Bison and Camron Maciejewski had 10 points. The Bison shot 37.1% and were 5-for-19 on 3-pointers.

MVP's Reed Rus finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and six assists on 6-for-11 field goal shooting, plus 8-for-14 at the free-throw line. Mason Hetland scored 11 points and had eight rebounds, while Zach Baker and Jordan Stoltz each had seven points, with Stoltz adding nine rebounds and four blocks.
