Mitchell Marlins girls sail past Sioux Center into state semifinals

No. 2 Marlins face No. 3 Aberdeen on Saturday for a spot in Sunday's championship

ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Mitchell Marlins girls hockey team is through to the semifinal round of the state hockey tournament.

Powered by hat tricks from Brooke Jarman and Brynlee Sabers, No. 2 Mitchell cruised past No. 7 Sioux Center, 9-1, in the quarterfinal round Friday at Odde Ice Arena.

The Marlins scored three first-period goals, two scored by Kelsey Amick, before the Storm answered with their lone goal of the contest just before the first intermission.

Jarman netted all three of her goals during Mitchell's four-goal four period before the Marlins added two more in the third period.

Along with their hat tricks, Jarman and Sabers each had two assists. Kelsey Amick also assisted three goals while Reese Amick posted one goal and one assist. Mya Tupper and Katelynn Laufman each had one assist for the Marlins.

In net, Sadie Kludt saved nine of the 10 shots she faced for the Marlins, while the Marlins sent 44 shots at Sioux Center goalie Allison Moore, who finished with 35 saves.

Camille McCord scored Sioux Center's only goal, assisted by Katrina Walhof.

Mitchell (17-2) plays Aberdeen (15-4) in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Saturday
