YANKTON, S.D. — Just a day after finishing fifth at the Huron Invitational, the Mitchell girls golf team was back in action as they traveled to Fox Run Golf Course to take on 14 other teams in the Yankton Invitational on Friday.
Sophomore Allison Meyerink led the way for the Kernels again, finishing with a score of 84 strokes (12-over-par) to tie for ninth place overall, as Mitchell finished in fifth place in the team standings. Senior Jayli Rients followed Meyerink, finishing with a score of 89 stokes (+17) to finish tied for 21st.
Maddie Childs and Quinn Dannenbring were not far behind, with Childs tying for 25th with 90 strokes (+18) and Dannenbring tying for 28th 91 stokes (+19).
Lara Widstrom and Mia Larson rounded out the Mitchell performers, shooting scores of 94 strokes (+22) and 97 strokes (+25), respectively.
Mitchell finished with a combined score of 354 strokes (+66), finishing just behind Pierre (352 strokes, +64). Harrisburg won the event (335 strokes, +47), followed by Aberdeen Central (337 strokes, +49) and Rapid City Stevens (345 strokes, +57).

The Mitchell girls return to Yankton to face off with the Yankton Gazelles for the Marchand Cup on Tuesday, May 10.
