MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School girls basketball program will hold its summer camp dates on June 15-16 at the Mitchell High School gym.

The camp will be run by MHS assistant coaches Esther Witte, Dave Brooks and McKenzie Mertens, along with members of the girls basketball team.

The summer camp is open to all girls entering grades K-12 at a cost of $40 per individual. If a family of two or more is signing up, the cost will be $60. Scholarships are available if payment is an issue.

This camp will provide a great chance for girls to learn about the game of basketball and practice the skills needed to build a successful player and program.

The camp will be a mix of both fundamentals and competition-based drills. Each camper will receive a t-shirt on the second day and prizes will also be awarded on the final day of camp.

Middle school (grades 6-8) sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. both days. Grades 3-5 will have their sessions from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on both days, while grades K-2 will have their session run from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. Registration for each athlete is due by Friday, June 3.

You can sign up by emailing Esther Witte at, or by downloading the registration form from the Mitchell Kernels Girls' Basketball Facebook page. Payments can be sent to 1104 State Ave. Attn: Coach Witte or can be made on the first day of camp.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
