MITCHELL — Wild Oak Golf Course was the site of the Mitchell cross country invite on a rainy Saturday.

As weather rolled through the area, the meet went into a weather delay following the junior varsity girls run, suspending the meet for roughly an hour and a half and canceling the boys junior varsity. However, the competition wasn't a varsity-regulation race and no team points were kept.

The girls and boys varsity ran at the same time. Chamberlain's Kinsey Evan's came in first place in the girls competition at 15:50.22. The top four finishers for the girls race were all from Chamberlain. Miller's Pierce Baumberger won the boys race with a time of 13:58.43.

Hunter Patton was the first Kernel to finish, placing eighth overall and running the 4k in 15:29.43. Elijah Schroeder came in 15th for Mitchell with a time of 15:49.44. Mitchell’s Colin Pickett (17:29.02) and Austin Reimnitz (17:30.34) placed 46th and 47th, respectively, while David Sheets (18:00.22) finished 57th. Kane Grajkowske (19:34.09) and Abe Gunnare (20:13.94) also ran for Mitchell, finishing 78th and 82nd, respectively.

Middle schoolers Axel Reimnitz, who placed 79th at 19:44.94, and Ryan Driscoll, who placed 85th at 20:15.91, ran for Mitchell as well.

Mitchell Christian also competed, and Silas Holdeman finished in fifth place at 14:57.5. Joseph Tegethoff (16:15.88) came in 24th, Luke Mentele (17:44.06) placed 52nd and Aidan Lessman (18:14.75) came in 62nd. Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
