MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School boys basketball team will host Rapid City Stevens in the Class AA SoDak 16 on Saturday, March 5.

The game will be played at the Corn Palace, with a 5 p.m. start time. Mitchell has a record of 13-7, while Rapid City Stevens is 10-10.

The two teams will meet in the state-qualifying round just 15 days after the Raiders stunned Mitchell at the Corn Palace in a 60-59 victory that included a last-second 3-pointer from Jaden Haefs . The Kernels were the state's No. 4-ranked team at the time.

Because the SoDak 16 in Class AA does not re-seed prior to the state tournament, the winner between the Kernels and the Raiders will take on either No. 4 Harrisburg or No. 13 Spearfish in the opening round of the Class AA state tournament on March 17 in Sioux Falls.

Mitchell will host a SoDak 16 game for the second consecutive season. The Kernels, who were seeded seventh a season ago, defeated Watertown, 66-40, to reach the Class AA state tournament for the first time since 2012.
