HURON, S.D. — The Huron girls golf invitational drew many of the best Class AA teams in the state to Broadland Creek Golf Course on Thursday, where Mitchell High School finished in fifth place as a team.
Allison Meyerink and Quinn Dannenbring led the way for the Kernels, finishing the day tied for eighth place with matching scores of 83 strokes (11-over-par).
Maddie Childs and Lara Widstrom also finished in the top-25, with Childs placing 16th with an 87 (+15) and Widstrom placing 25th with a 91 (+19). Jaylie Rients (93 strokes, +21) and Ava Eliason (102 strokes, +30) rounded out the Mitchell performers.
Aberdeen Central won the team championship, finishing a combined 49-over-par, followed by Rapid City Stevens (+54) in second place and Huron and O’Gorman in third-place tie (+55). Mitchell placed fifth (+56) followed by Harrisburg (+60) in sixth, Pierre (+64) in seventh, Watertown (+88) in eighth and Brookings (+97) in ninth.
The Kernel girls will be back in action on Friday, May 6, at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton for the Yankton Invitational. Action is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
