MITCHELL — A third-period goal with just over five minutes to left lifted Aberdeen over the Mitchell Marlins girls on Sunday.
Raniesa Mattke scored for the Cougars at the 14:40 mark of the third period, breaking a 2-all tie with her game-winning goal to give Aberdeen a 3-2 win on the road.
The Cougars opened up the scoring in the first period and extended their lead to 2-0 in the second, but Mitchell answered with the next two goals. Brynlee Sabers scored an unassisted goal on a power play in the second period and then assisted on Makenna Tronnes’ third-period goal that tied the game at two.
The Marlins had 13 shots on goal for the game, and converted on one of their eight power-play chances. Defensively, Mitchell killed all six of the Cougars’ power plays, but allowed Aberdeen to put 29 shots on goal for the contest.
Sadie Kludt turned away 26 of the 29 shots for a .897 save percentage in the loss.
