Kernels boys tennis swept by Sioux Falls Lincoln

Mitchell will be back at Hitchcock Park for duals against Sioux Falls Christian and Lennox on Monday afternoon.

MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School boys tennis team saw the eight-time defending state champions of Sioux Falls Lincoln flex their muscle in a dual at Hitchcock Park on Friday afternoon.

Across the top four singles and top two doubles flights, Mitchell was limited to seven total games won, as Lincoln swept the action with a 9-0 match record.

At singles Flights 1 and 2, Lincoln’s Rocky McKenzie and Drew Gohl surrendered a single game each across two sets, defeating Mitchell’s Luke Jerke and Jager Juracek, respectively. The Kernels’ Levi Loken took one game off Lincoln’s River McKenzie in each set at Flight 3, while the Patriots’ Arthur Tao won all 12 games contested with Mitchell’s Nathan Wagner at Flight 4.

Mitchell’s Matthew Mauszycki took four games off of Lincoln’s Christopher Tao in the first set at Flight 5, the most of any Kernel, and another game in the second set. At Flight 6, Mitchell’s Zach Fuhrer won two second-set games against the Patriots’ Jacob Husser.

In doubles action, Jerke and Juracek claimed three total games across two sets against Rocky McKenzie and Gohl at Flight 1. At Flight 2, River McKenzie and Arthur Tao swept both sets against Loken and Sutton Thompson. Mauszycki and Fuhrer won two games in the first set and four more in the second of their Flight 3 match against Christopher Tao and Husser.

With a quad in Huron scheduled for Saturday postponed due to weather, Mitchell (2-2 in duals) is set for its next action back at Hitchcock Park on Monday, when the Kernels are slate to host Sioux Falls Christian and Lennox.
