MITCHELL — An earlier start time was just fine on Thursday for the Mitchell High School girls tennis team in a 9-0 sweep of Sioux Falls Washington in a dual at Hitchcock Park.

It was Mitchell’s fifth straight victory in dual competition, with this contest moved up seven hours to a 9 a.m. morning start due to the hot weather conditions in South Dakota.

The Kernels’ Amber Moller won her No. 1 singles match over Washington’s Kara Gary by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Delaney Degen (No. 2), Carsyn Weich (No. 3) and Ireland Blindauer (No. 5) each won singles matches against their Washington opponents by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Weich has improved a team-best 14-1 in singles matches with the victory, while Degen is 12-3.
