BRANDON, S.D. — After hanging with Brandon Valley for much of the first half, the Lynx pulled away from the Mitchell girls basketball team.
After bringing the game to within one at 19-18 in the second quarter, Class AA No. 5-ranked Brandon Valley outscored the Kernels 36-15, picking up a 55-33 win in Brandon on Saturday.
Mitchell led 8-7 after the first quarter and held Brandon Valley without a field goal for the first 6:05 of the game, but the Lynx went on a 9-0 run that spanned from the end of the first into the second quarter, taking a lead they never gave back. Brandon Valley outscored Mitchell 48-35 over the final three quarters.
Sawyer Stoebner picked up a team-high 13 points for the Kernels, while Allison Meyerink chipped in nine. For Brandon Valley, Hilary Behrens had 22 points, and Alyvia Padgett had 10.
The 33 points is the second-lowest point total of the season for Mitchell, which scored just three points in the final quarter and did not record a field goal in the frame.

The Kernels finish the regular season on a six-game losing streak, dropping to 8-12. Their next game comes in the SoDak 16 on Friday, March 3, where they’ll be on the road.
As the standings sit with just two Class AA games left to go (Pierre versus Sioux Falls Jefferson and Aberdeen Central versus Sioux Falls Roosevelt — both on Monday) Mitchell would match up again with Brandon Valley in the SoDak 16.
