PIERRE, S.D. — A personal-best mark from Joe Haddon and a third-place finish in the triple jump paced the Mitchell High School track and field team in action Friday at the Pierre American Legion Relays at Hollister Field.
Haddon finished with a top leap of 42 feet, 1 inches, finishing behind Bismarck’s Ty Allen’s 44-foot mark and Rapid City Stevens’ Jess Christensen (42-7). The jump moved Haddon to sixth for the season in Class AA and among South Dakota boys triple jumpers, and he surpassed his best jump of the season by nearly 2 feet.
Carter Moller finished fifth in the boys high jump with a leap of 6-foot-0. Treyson Schulz was ninth in the boys long jump with a personal-best mark (20-4.5). In the boys 4x200 relay, Nathan McCormick, Schulz, Bryce Palmer and Moller finished in sixth place in a time of 1:34.05.
Brandon Valley won the boys team title race with 110 points, with Bismarck (N.D.) taking second place with 104.5 points. Winner finished 13th with 15 points and Mitchell with 13 points and a 14th-place finish.
In the girls scoring, Rapid City Stevens won the title with 125 points, followed by Brandon Valley with 111 points. Mitchell was 14th with 14 points and Winner was tied for 15th with six points.

For the Kernel girls, the sprint medley relay team of Claire Hegg, Keyana Kelley, Lizzie Tyler and Carsyn Weich earned a third-place finish in a time of 4:28.76, which is a season-best mark.
Kelley took eighth place in the 100-meter dash finals, with a time of 13.09 seconds. Kelley, a freshman, anchored the 4x100-meter relay for the Kernel girls, along with Brooke Bartscher, Lainee Forst and Claire Hegg in a time of 51.13 seconds, finishing fifth. The 4x200 relay team consisting of Forst, Carsyn Weich, Bartscher and Lizzie Tyler took sixth place in a time of 1:49.83.
Leading Winner, Aaron Monk took third place in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.35 seconds. Monk also led the sprint medley relay along with teammates Michael Olson, Karson Keiser and Kade Watson for a third-place finish in a time of 3:51.20. Watson was sixth in the 1,600-meter run in a season-best time of 4:47.20.
For the Warrior girls, Ellie Brozik was fifth in the girls triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 9.5 inches and anchored the 4x200 relay’s seventh-place finish along with Kylie Sachtjen, Preslie Petersek and Keelie Kuil in a time of 1:50.68.
Mitchell is back in action at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at the First Dakota Relays in Yankton.
