YANKTON — Mitchell High School golfers Jackson Childs and Lara Widstrom both posted top-three finishes in the boys and girls age 16-18 divisions, respectively, at the SDGA Junior Tour event Thursday at Fox Run Golf Course.

Childs carded an 8-over-par 80 to finish in second place, one stroke back of winner Austin Merrow, of Sioux Falls. Widstrom took third, as her 94 strokes trailed only Sioux Falls’ Lauren Yu (89) and Yankton’s Jillian Eidsness (92).

In the girls age 14-15 division, Mitchell’s Ava Eliason shot a 95, which was good for second place just behind Vermillion’s Saige Jorgensen. Rounding out the 18-hole competitions, Mitchell’s Anna Eliason shot a 103 to take fifth in the girls age 12-13 division, while Mitchell’s Jordan Meyerink (92) was the top area boys finisher on the boys side, coming in ninth.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
