HOWARD, S.D. — The Howard boys golf team edged Hanson, who had three golfers place in the top five, by four strokes to clinch the Cornbelt Conference title on Wednesday at the Howard Golf Course.
Howard had two individuals finish in the top five and four in the top 10, as Lane Hodges finished with the top overall score of 69. Teammate Zach Jacobson shot a 77 to finish fourth, Luke Koepsell shot a 78 to finish sixth and Kolt Koespell shot an 80 to finish in eighth place, as Howard finished with a team score of 224.
Hanson’s AJ Wilber finished in second with a 74, and Ben Wilber placed third with a score of 76. Keenan Waldera rounded out the top five, finishing with a score of 78.
Howard’s Trinity Palmquist and Piper Thompson each shot an 82 and 84 to finish with the top two scores on the girls' side. Teammate Mia Glanzer shot an 88 to place third.
Bridgewater-Emery’s Shania Longe shot a 99 to finish in fourth place, while Freeman’s Lily Wipf shot a 110 to place fifth. Freeman’s Paige Auch shot a 119 and Bridgewater-Emery’s Claire Kayser shot a 138, as the pair placed sixth and eighth, respectively, separated by Viborg-Hurley's LaMiya Baker in seventh.
