Saturday: MV/P’s Engelland named Class A girls track MVP

With two meet records, two finishes in first, one in second and one in third, attendees and officials couldn't stop talking about Berkeley Engelland, leading to her being named the Class A girls track MVP of the weekend.

“I’m not really sure how I’ve been able to do this, but I’ve been keeping a positive attitude and remembering to keep going because now that the meet is over, I can rest,” Engelland said. “I wanted to come out running hard every time and just put the thought behind me that I might be tired and just settle in.”

Winner's Aaron Monk was a winner Saturday, taking home a state title in the Class A boys 110-meter hurdles. With a time of 15.08 seconds, a personal record for Monk, the Winner senior slipped past Tri-Valley's Michael Beyer by eight-hundredths of a second. Monk's first-place finish capped off a redemption tour sought after since a third-place finish at the state meet in 2021.
