MITCHELL — Monday night marked the end of the regular season for Class AA basketball, and as such, the SoDak 16 state-qualifying pairings are officially set.
The Mitchell girls head into the SoDak 16 as the No. 12 seed and will travel to No. 5-seed Brandon Valley at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 3, while the Kernel boys are the No. 3 seed and will host No. 14-seed Watertown at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at the Corn Palace.
The Kernel girls closed out their regular season on the road against Brandon Valley last time out and lost, 55-33. The winner of the Kernels-Lynx matchup will take on either No. 4 Sioux Falls Jefferson or No. 13 Aberdeen Central in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, March 9, at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
Meanwhile, the Mitchell boys took down the Arrows, 63-47, in Watertown on Feb. 18. Whoever advances between the Kernels and Arrows will face either No. 6 Pierre or No. 11 O’Gorman in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, March 16, at the Summit Arena in Rapid City.
All eight winners from each bracket will head to the Class AA state tournament. The girls Class AA state tournament is Thursday-Saturday, March 9-11 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. The boys Class AA state tournament is Thursday-Saturday, March 16-18 at the Summit Arena in Rapid City.
