Chester Area stops Mitchell Christian girls at Huron Holiday Classic

HURON -- A trio of top scorers powered Chester Area to a win at the girls basketball Huron Holiday Classic over Mitchell Christian on Thursday at the Huron Arena by a score of 68-31.

Chester Area was paced by Emery Larson’s 24 points, which came on an 8-for-16 shooting day. Jacy Wolf and Emerson Eppard each scored 16 points, powering the Flyers to a 16-point halftime lead that swelled to as many as 38 points in the fourth quarter. The Flyers had 15 steals, including four from Wolf, and converted 14-of-17 free-throw tries.

Mitchell Christian was led by Rebakah Strong’s 11 points, with seven from Kelsey Holdeman and six from Jasmyne Lessman. The Golden Eagles shot 31.4% from the field and finished 1-for-6 on 3-pointers and 8-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Chester Area (2-2) is back on the court on Friday, Jan. 6 hosting Dell Rapids St. Mary, while Mitchell Christian (0-3) hosts Wessington Springs on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
