MITCHELL — The inaugural South Dakota Prep Media volleyball poll was released Monday afternoon, with Wagner standing as the highest Mitchell-area team at No. 3 in Class A.
The Red Raiders, who were the fourth-place finishers last season with a final record of 28-8, are ranked behind state champions Sioux Falls Christian and No. 2 Dakota Valley. Class A runner-up in 2021 Garretson is ranked No. 4 in the preseason, followed by Rapid City Christian at No. 5. Platte-Geddes, which won 34 matches in 2021 and finished third in Class B, was top team receiving votes outside the top-5.
In Class B, defending state champion Warner was the overwhelming No. 1 team off a 33-5 season. State runner-up Colman-Egan was second, followed by Chester Area at No. 3, Northwestern at No. 4 and Wolsey-Wessington at No. 5. Burke was the top vote-getter outside the top-five, as was Bridgewater-Emery, which was 28-1 last season but missed out on the state tournament.
In Class AA, it's an all-Sioux Falls metro top-5, with O'Gorman at No. 1, receiving 12 of the 13 available first-place votes. Sioux Falls Washington was second, followed by Brandon Valley at No. 3, Harrisburg at No. 4 and Sioux Falls Jefferson at No. 5.
