Area wrestling roundup for Dec. 3: Warriors win six titles at KWLPG Invite

Meets in Kimball, Dell Rapids, Fort Pierre, Flandreau and O'Neill, Neb. had area teams in action on Saturday.

KIMBALL, S.D. — Winner Area posted six individual champions and earned a victory in the season-debut tournament for a number of area wrestling programs on Saturday at the Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes Invitational.

The Warriors scored 209 points, with championships from Rylan Robbins (106), Maxton Brozik (126), Karson Keiser (138), Riley Orel (170), Jack Kruger (195) and Stetson Shelbourn (285), plus a second-place finish from Konner Osborn at 145 pounds. Shelbourn finished with three pins in a total time of 3 minutes and 6 seconds.

Miller-Highmore/Harrold was second at 160 points, followed by Parkston in third place (148.5), Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney (111) and KWLPG and Wagner sharing fifth place with 110 points.

Wyatt Anderson was Parkston’s individual champion at 145 pounds, while Gage Reichert (126) and Porter Neugebauer (170) finished in second place for the Trojans.

For the host Wildkats, Kasen Konstanz was the champion at 132 pounds, with Carter Lenz (152) and Aiden Novak (285) taking second place.


Wagner had champions at 120 pounds with Karstyn Lhotak and Jhett Breen at 152 pounds, while Tim Bouza was second at 220 pounds.

For MVPCS, Keagan Hill was second at 113 pounds, as was Tate Tolsma at 160 pounds.

Easton Tschetter had a second place finish for Marion/Freeman, while Keegan Haider was a champion at 182 pounds and Jacksen Carter was second at 120 pounds for Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington

MCM puts together strong day at Dell Rapids meet

DELL RAPIDS, S.D. — McCook Central/Montrose had a big day at the Top of the Rock Invitational on Saturday, claiming four individual championships. Canton won the team title with 180 points, followed by Adrian Area (Minn.) at 142 pounds, MCM at 139 points and Bon Homme/Avon at 94.5 points.

Trystan Traupel earned the title at 126 pounds over Bon Homme/Avon’s Jackson Kaul, while Jackson Remmers won the 160-pound championship, and Weston Remmers claimed the title at 170, with the latter coming over teammate Carter Randall via 5-1 decision. Austin Hoiten won the championship at 285 pounds and Kade Grocott finished in second place at 220 pounds, while Caleb Hoffman was second at 106 pounds.

Bon Homme/Avon was led by Isaac Crownover’s championship at 195 pounds. At 145 pounds, Tyler Tjeerdsma finished in second place.

In the girls portion of the tournament, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon top wrestlers

Britney Rueb and Peyton Hellmann met for the title at the 132/138 bracket, with Rueb winning by 5-2 decision. McCook Central/Montrose’s Alexis Bryant won the 120/126 title with a first-period pin over Dell Rapids’ Rylee Bird.


Raiders pick up two titles at Stanley County

FORT PIERRE, S.D. — Lyman scored a third-place finish at the Stanley County Invitational on Saturday. New Salem-Almont (N.D.) was the team champion with 194 points, narrowly ahead of Philip Area at 193.5 points. Lyman scored 118 points and Potter County was fourth at 99 points.

Kellen Griffith was a champion for the Raiders at 145 pounds, and Louie Thiry won a title at 285 pounds, capped by a pin in 54 seconds in the championship match. Tance Wagner was second at 170 pounds and Rory McManus finished in second at 182 pounds.

Tigers pick up pair of bracket winners in Flandreau

FLANDREAU, S.D. — At the Flandreau Invitational on Saturday, Howard had a pair of individual champions on the podium at the end of the day.

Luverne (Minn.) won the team title with 169 points, followed by Madison with 149 points and Deuel at 124 points. Howard was sixth with 72.5 points.

Connor Giedd earned the championship at 120 pounds with a technical fall in 3 minutes, 5 seconds, while Tate Miller was the champion at 145 pounds with an 8-3 decision over Evan Bartholomaus, of Red Rock Central (Minn.)

Cubs claim two titles at O’Neill Invite

O’NEILL, Neb. — Chamberlain had two champions at the O’Neill, Nebraska Invitational on Saturday, taking eighth place as a team. Crofton-Bloomfield and Valentine each tied for the team title at 125 pounds, with Chamberlain finishing with 83 points.

The Cubs had both finalists in the 285-pound bracket with Noah Hutmacher and Canyon Burkard. The two teammates did not wrestle in the championship round, with Burkard forfeiting to Hutmacher, who won both of his matches in his bracket with sub-1-minute pins, while Burkard had three pins of his own on the day.

Bryce Reuer was the champion at 152 pounds for the Cubs, defeating Valentine’s Kadon Wenig in the championship match by 4-3 decision.
