Area boys SoDak 16 basketball roundup: Aberdeen Christian defeats Lyman behind 20-point halftime lead

HURON – No. 12-seeded Aberdeen Christian scored 23 points in the second quarter and had a 20-point lead at halftime to upset No. 5 Lyman 64-46 in the SoDak 16 and advance to the Class B state tournament.

Aberdeen Christian (20-3): All players for the Knights scored double-figure in points to advance to the state title. Malek Wieker scored 16 points, along with nine rebounds and four steals. Ethan Russell had 15 points and four rebounds while Andrew Brennan had 12 points. Kaden Clark added 11 points and Jackson Isakson added 10 points. Aberdeen Christian plays Potter County in the state quarterfinals at 1:45 p.m. in Aberdeen on Thursday, Mar. 17.

Lyman (16-7): Sam McClanahan had 12 points, five rebounds and two steals while Colton Collins had 11 points and three rebounds. Issac Thomas added 10 points in the loss as the Raiders season ended on Tuesday.
