Platte-Geddes pulls past Winner/Colome after late rally

Platte-Geddes scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take down Winner/Colome 5-4 Monday in Legion baseball action.

WINNER -- Platte-Geddes scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take down Winner/Colome 5-4 Monday in Legion baseball action.

Trailing 4-2 with two outs, Kelby VanDerWerff tied the game with a two-run single and Landon Schulte scored the game-winning run for the White Caps on an error during the ensuing at-bat. VanDerWerff went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the game, while also earning the win on the mound after not allowing an earned run on eight hits in six innings of work.

Ashton Klein went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Royals, while Aaron Gilchrist went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Joey Cole also knocked in a run. Gilchrist surrendered four earned runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Platte-Geddes (2-1) hosted Wessington Springs/Woonsocket Tuesday. Winner/Colome (2-3) travels to Martin for a doubleheader at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
