AVON-The Avon Pirates picked up their first win of the season, outlasting Mitchell Christian 41-40 in a high school boys basketball game on Tuesday in Avon.

Mitchell Christian's game-winning shot by Zach Bosworth just missed, giving Avon the win.

"We had a good look, it just didn't drop," MCS head coach Dennis Martin said. "We struggled taking care of the basketball again, but we played a lot of young kids and I was proud with how hard they played. It was a fun basketball game, but we just came up short."

MCS eighth-grader Ty Vander Pol led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 16 points, while Christian Cooper and Zach Bosworth each chipped in seven points.

"Ty really stepped up and played big for us," Martin said. "He handled himself well and the shots were falling for him."
