Girard and partner Schoenfelder win Walleye Classic

Mark Schoenfelder caught a 5.98-pound walleye in the 24th annual Missouri River Walleye Classic two-day fishing tournament over the weekend.
Schoenfelder and his partner, Greg Girard, won the tournament with 32.79 pounds of fish. The team is from Mitchell.
Lee and Jace Pulse, of Kimball, took second with 32.4 pounds and Ron and Brian Dahl, Sioux Falls, finished third with 29.49 pounds.

Ninety teams entered in the tournament and six walleyes were weighed each day. Boats fished in 30- to 50-mph winds to catch fish.
Bill and Bob Severtson, of Lake Lillian, Minn., and Akaska, were in first place with 18.75 pounds after Saturday. Schoenfelder and Girard had 16.41 pounds on Saturday and caught 16.38 pounds Sunday.
Walleye Classic near Platte canceled

PLATTE -- The 15th annual Avera Queen of Peace Walleye Classic scheduled for Saturday, May 14, at the Snake Creek Recreation Area, Dock 44, near Platte has been canceled due to low registration numbers.
