Northwestern rallies to top DWU volleyball

The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team lost three straight sets on Wednesday at the Corn Palace, as Northwestern (Iowa) earned a four-set Great Plains Athletic Conference win.

The Red Raiders won 20-25, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-15, handing the Tigers their second loss in the last three matches.

DWU started fast in the first set by claiming an 11-6 lead. The lead grew to as many as eight points at 22-14 prior to Mariah Gloe putting down the set-clinching kill. She finished with 11 digs and six kills.

Northwestern responded by taking early leads and finishing strong in each of the next three sets. In the second set, it won the final four points, while it went on a 6-1 run to close out the third set.

Ady Dwight put down 12 kills for the Tigers, while Reliance native Sara Herman had a team-high 12 digs. Madeline Else dished out 32 assists to go with eight digs. Tya Weideman added nine digs and Mitchell native Mackenzie Miller chipped in six kills.

DWU (6-3, 3-3 GPAC) hosts Morningside at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Corn Palace.
