PRESHO — The boat ramp and trails to a popular Lyman County public hunting and fishing areas are getting a major overhaul.

Work began Wednesday, Sept. 28, to the boat ramp and the access trail on the west side of Fate Dam, which will be closed to the public. The dam is located about 5 miles northeast of Presho.

A new boat ramp, parking lot, and gravel trail on the west side of the lake will be completed sometime within the next four to eight weeks.

“Due to safety concerns the area will have to be closed to the public,” said South Dakota Department of Game Fish and Parks Aquatic and Habitat Access Biologist Kyle Potter. “The contractor will be putting in new culverts, gravel and road improvements, and a full boat ramp replacement.”

“Contractors will try to provide some type of parking off the county road for the hunters, but fishing access will be very limited except at the shoreline near the dam or walking in,” Potter said.
