SIOUX FALLS-The Mitchell High School girls basketball team rattled off six wins in a row and were playing its best basketball of the season. On Saturday, however, the Kernels hit a brick wall in the form of Class AA No. 1 Sioux Falls O'Gorman.
The Knights held Mitchell (11-7) to a total of nine points in the first and third quarters, while shooting 64.7 percent for the game to end the Kernel winning streak, 53-37.
Mitchell shot 37.8 percent on offense, while its defense had no answer for O'Gorman's (17-2) Emma Ronsiek, who scored a game-high 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting.
Mackenzie Miller was the lone Kernel in double figures, posting 15 points, while Tayler Factor and Tess Limberg had eight points apiece.
Mitchell looks to get back on track Tuesday, when it hosts Sioux Falls Washington at the Corn Palace, where the Kernels are 7-1 this season.
