Neugebauer's hat trick leads Marlin boys to 1-0 start

Sophomore Spencer Neugebauer scored a hat trick in the Mitchell Marlin boys hockey team's season opener Friday night at the Mitchell Activities Center.

Sophomore Spencer Neugebauer scored a hat trick in the Mitchell Marlin boys hockey team's season opener Friday night at the Mitchell Activities Center.

All three of Neugebauer's goals came in the third period, securing a 7-4 win for the Marlins (1-0). There were nine goals scored in the third period.

Four other Mitchell players -- Jordan Grosdidier, Jacob Cersosimo, Jacob Thill and Jesse Grosdidier -- made one goal apiece. Thill also recorded four assists, Jacob Rice and Alex Murtha had two apiece and Jordan Grosdidier and Cersosimo each had one assist.

Goalie Tate Sutherland made 34 saves for Mitchell, which made 28 shots on goal. Huron goalies Christian Schelhaas and Tyler Sterrett made 21 saves combined.

Huron's leading scorer was Paul Cramer with two.

Mitchell hosts Watertown at 8 p.m. today at the Mitchell Activities Center.
