Mount Vernon/Plankinton races past competition to sweep of Ethan/Parkston Relays

Mount Vernon/Plankinton won a total of 15 events to sweep the boys and girls championships at the Ethan/Parkston relays Tuesday.

PARKSTON — Mount Vernon/Plankinton won a total of 15 events to sweep the boys and girls championships at the Ethan/Parkston relays Tuesday.

The Titans scored 153 points on the boys side, besting second-place Ethan/Parkston’s 119 and Wagner’s 114. McCook Central/Montrose was fourth with 76 points.

Junior Reece Risseuw swept the hurdles for MVP, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 15.81 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 43.71 seconds. Lincoln Klooz raced to a win in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 57.29 seconds. Chris Mayer also captured the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 36.20 seconds.

Reed Rus won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches and Ryan Chapman was the winner in the shot put with a heave of 39 feet, 4 1/2 inches.

Wagner’s Malcolm Janis won three individual events, taking the 200 in 23.43 seconds. Janis also won the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 10 inches and leaped 19 feet, 5 1/4 inches in the long jump. In the pole vault, Jaden Peters vaulted 14 feet, 9 inches, more than 6 feet higher than the next closest competitor.

Wessington Springs’ Quinten Christensen won the discus with a throw of 124 feet, while Mitchell Christian’s Nathanael Anderberg won the 800 in 2 minutes, 16.22 seconds. MCM’s Joe Loudenburg won the 100 in 10.65 seconds.

On the girls side, MVP compiled 187 points, while Ethan/Parkston was second with 126. MCM was third with 56 and Tripp-Delmont/Armour fourth with 54.

Reagan Rus won both hurdle events for MVP 100 hurdles in 17.01 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 54.49 seconds. Suri Schmidt raced to a win in the 800 in 2 minutes, 47.74 seconds. Emilee Fox won the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches) and Clara Fink took the shot put (32 feet, 7 1/4 inches).

Ethan/Parkston’s Allison Ziebart won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2 3/4 inches and the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet, 1/2 inch. Emma Yost also won the discus with a throw of 112 feet, 1 inch, while Lindsey Roth won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 54.47 seconds.

Mitchell Christian’s Keely O’Neill won the 3,200 in 14 minutes, 36.30 seconds, while MCM’s Brandy Pulse won the 400 in 1 minute, 9.12 seconds. TDA’s Hannah Whitney won the 100 in 13.17 seconds.
