MINNEAPOLIS - Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway, a Mount Vernon native, was named Tuesday one of 32 nominees for the first NFL Sportsmanship Award.
Each team nominated a player for the award, which will recognize annually players who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field. A panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community will pare the nominees to eight finalists (four in each conference) and current NFL players will vote on the winner.
The panel of former players includes Warrick Dunn, Curtis Martin, Leonard Wheeler and former University of Minnesota star Karl Mecklenburg.
Greenway, 31, is ninth season with the Vikings. He made the Pro Bowl after the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Among those also nominated was Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, a Minneapolis native.
