Young scores 13 in SDSU win over Northern Iowa

BROOKINGS - Mitchell native Kerri Young scored 13 points off the bench for the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team in an 80-44 win over Northern Iowa Sunday in Brookings.

Young was 5 for 11 from the field and hit one 3-pointer on three attempts, while adding two rebounds and three assists in the win.

Steph Paluch scored a game-high 16 points for the Jackrabbits (4-2) on 6-of-10 shooting, while Chynna Stevens and Chloe Cornemann each added nine points.

SDSU plays Pepperdine University at 7 p.m. Thursday at Frost Arena in Brookings.

Mike Miller held scoreless in Grizzlies win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Mitchell native Mike Miller was held without a shot in 21 minutes in a 97-86 Memphis win over Sacramento Sunday.

Miller did collect three rebounds, one assist and one steal in the win.

Memphis (5-5) was led by Zach Randolph, who finished with a double-double. Randolph scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies.

Memphis plays the Los Angeles Clippers at 9:30 p.m. today in Los Angeles.

USD women’s basketball falls to UND 65-61

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team fell to the University of North Dakota 65-61 Sunday in Grand Forks, N.D.

The Coyotes (1-3) got a career-high 16 points from sophomore Tia Hemiller, while Margaret McCloud picked up a double-double.

UND (1-2) had four players reach double digits in scoring, including Madi Buck with 18 points.

USD plays Drake at 7 p.m. Thursday in Vermillion.

SF Lincoln wins state 11AAA football title

VERMILLION - Caden Quintanillia rushed for 244 yards and scored four times and Sioux Falls Lincoln forced five turnovers to beat Sioux Falls Roosevelt 47-24 Saturday in the 11AAA championship game.

Quintanillia scored on runs of 1, 4, 6 and 80 yards for the Patriots (11-0), who scored 20 points in the third quarter after trailing 24-20 at half.
Lincoln piled up 502 yards of total offense, including 416 yards on the ground.

Roosevelt (9-2) turned ball over five times, three times by fumble and was shut out in the second half.

Taryn Christion completed 21 of 37 passes for 322 yards and two TDs for Roosevelt, which got 169 receiving yards on 10 catches from David Mulbah.

Lincoln held Roosevelt to 35 yards rushing and held the Rough Riders scoreless in the second half.

Austin Atwood had two interceptions for Roosevelt, including one he returned for a 30-yard TD.
