BRANDON – Out of 283 competitors and 20 lifters representing Mitchell High School in the Brandon Valley High School Powerlifting Invitational on Jan. 29 at the Brandon Valley High School, Mitchell's Paige Guthmiller earned a medal in her respective weight class.
Guthmiller placed fourth in the 123-pound class with a 425-pound total. She had a 160-pound squat, while bench-pressing 90 pounds and deadlifting 175 pounds.
Wolsey-Wessington’s Kenedee Rowen, competing with Mitchell's club, was also a medalist, finishing first in the 132-pound class by lifting a total of 705 pounds, through a 265-pound squat, bench pressing 140 pounds and deadlifting 300.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Shania Cornelius earned the third-place medal of the 132-pound class with a 505 total. She squatted 160 pounds, bench pressed 100 pounds and deadlifted 245 pounds.
High school members of the Mitchell club next compete at the South Dakota High School State Powerlifting Meet in Salem on March 5.
