CHAMBERLAIN-The Mitchell wrestling team fought to a third place finish at the River City Rumble on Saturday in Chamberlain.

The Kernels finished with a team score of 132, while Huron won the event with a 229.5.

"It was a good day for us and a good tournament," Mitchell head coach Travis Carpenter said. "I was happy with our kids that finished first, and we had eight total kids place in their weight classes."

Briggs Havlik won the 145-pound weight title, while Zach Smith finished first in the 152-pound weight class.

"Briggs had a great day, and pinned his opponents throughout the tournament," Carpenter said. "He battled back in the finals and got a fall to clinch the win. Zach got some good wins and avenged a loss from Huron that he had on Thursday. He had a lot of 6 minute battles and it was good for him to get that experience this time of year."
