YANKTON-The Mitchell wrestling team earned an 11th place finish at the Yankton Invitational on Saturday in Yankton with a team score of 74.5.
"I think we had a decent day," Mitchell head coach Travis Carpenter said. "There were a couple kids that had a chance to place but didn't get there, but the six kids that did have shown big improvement. We got some wins that we haven't been getting, and it was a good win for our kids."
Millard South won the invitational with a score of 250.5.
For Mitchell, Carson Max earned a second-pace finish in the 170-pound weight class, just coming up short against Douglas' Colton Hitshew 8-4 in the championship match.
"It was nice to have Carson back and place in a tournament," Carpenter said. "He's done a good job of battling back, and if he gets in better shape he's going to have a good chance when it matters in two weeks."
