Mitchell White swept by Sioux Falls West
Mitchell White played two high-scoring teener baseball games against Sioux Falls West on Friday, but dropped both. Sioux Falls won 11-10 in seven innings, and then completed the sweep with a 19-5 four-inning win in Game 2.
Cale Sheaffer drove home the go-ahead run for Sioux Falls in the first game. It gave Ethan Swenson the win, who went the distance and struck out eight batters. He allowed 10 earned runs on 14 hits and nine walks. Marc Ryckman had three hits and Hugh Barnes finished with two hits for Sioux Falls.
Mitchell had five players with a multi-hit game. Parker Mandel and Ethan Driscoll, who drove in two runs, both had three hits. Tyler Sanderson, Esten Schlimgen and Carter Liddeke all had two hits. Denzel Kelley and Hudson Borgan both drove in two runs.
On the mound, Sutton Thompson allowed 10 runs (one earned) and struck out five in a 5.2-inning start. Mason Herman’s only run allowed was unearned in the final 1.1 innings.
In the second game, Sioux Falls took a 6-0 lead in the first inning. It later added 10 runs in the fourth, as Sweson finished with three of its eight hits. Landon Gross earned the win.
Carter Lee doubled for Mitchell, which was held to five hits. Lee also drove in two runs. Mitchell used five pitchers, allowing eight unearned runs. It combined for five strikeouts.
Mitchell (3-5) hosts Huron for a 4 p.m. doubleheader today.
