SIOUX FALLS -- Mitchell tennis players put on an impressive showing at the South Dakota Adult Open over the weekend, with three players earning individual championships.

Brenden Lehr emerged as the No. 8 seed in the 4.0 men’s singles bracket to top Richard Thomason, 6-0, 6-2, in the championship match. He defeated the No. 1 seed Justin Brown in straight sets to reach the finals.

Melanie Mullenmeister topped a pair of opponents to claim the title in the 4.5 women’s singles tournament. She outlasted Susan Benson, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6, and then earned a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kaitlyn Dennis.

In doubles play, Mitchell’s Chad Larson teamed up with Huron’s Leah Branaugh to earn a first-place finish. It earned a first-round bye, and then won in three sets to advance to the championship match, where it beat top-seeded Jason Thiner and Andrea Thiner, 6-2, 6-3.

Mullenmeister and Scott Loecker also teamed up in the mixed 9.0 doubles bracket. They bounced back from a loss in the semifinals to become the consolation champions.
