Mitchell tennis players compete in Becky Moore tournament

Mitchell High School assistant tennis coach Chad Larson said the fifth annual Becky Moore State Farm Junior Tennis Jamboree was a success.

The tournament took place Thursday at Hitchcock Park in Mitchell.

Although the morning started out on the cooler side, all 17 participants were able to play their matches and have the chance to earn some tournament experience.

Beau Brown, Chelsea Kracht and Avery Larson all took home first-place medals at the end of the day. Jacob Cersosimo, Haley Smith and Jordan Thill took home second-place medals and Tate Crago, Katie Loveland and Kaihlen Smith all finished with third-place medals.

"We had a lot of fun," Larson said about the tournament.

"It's all about the kids getting out there and enjoying the day and having fun. That's really what Mitchell tennis is all about."

Larson said the most important part about Thursday was having some of the younger kids be able to experience tournament play and see how older and more experienced athletes handle themselves in a tournament setting.

"Some of the younger kids playing in the tournament for the first time get to watch how the older kids react and respond to big matches," he said.

"It's part of the learning process and everyone benefits in the end. The kids had a blast overall."

The next tournament on the schedule is the Mitchell Tennis Classic--Juniors which is scheduled for June 15-17. The deadline to register is June 10.
