Mitchell teener baseball roundup: Mitchell teams split on first day of tournament

Mitchell Black overcame four errors that led to seven Sturgis runs in the second inning pick up a 14-11 win in the 14-year-old division to close out the first day of the Mitchell Teener Tournament at Cadwell Park.

Mitchell scored in all five of its trips to the plate and scored at least three runs in four innings, while compiling 16 hits in the game.

Connor Hohn led Mitchell by going 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored. Peyton Schroder went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Camen Max and Lukas Bennett (3-for-3) each knocked in a pair of runs. Carter Miller and Dylan Soulek both had two hits and an RBI.

Hudson Haley got the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs (eight unearned) on four hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings. Schroder didn't allow a run on one hit in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Mitchell (1-6-1) faces Sioux Falls at 2 p.m. and Dell Rapids at 6:30 p.m. today at Drake Field.

Mitchell White 10, Yankton 2

Mitchell White registered six runs in the first inning to win its tournament opener against Yankton in the 13-year-old division at Drake Field.

Landen Soulek and Blake Brosz drove in runs on ground balls in the first, while Mitchell also took advantage of four walks and an error in the frame.

Thaden Auch, Tyson Sabers, Gavin Soukup and Nic Moller all had RBIs for Mitchell, which needed just five hits to get the win.

Soukup picked up the win without surrendering a run on two hits and a walk in four innings, while striking out eight batters.

Rayner Roly gave up four earned runs on five hits and 10 walks in four innings for Yankton.

Mitchell (2-4) faces Renner at 10 a.m. today at Cadwell Park.

Pierre 7, Mitchell White 1

Mitchell White allowed multiple runs in three straight innings on Friday as Pierre topped it in its second tournament game of the day.

Mitchell was held to three hits, while Pierre had five but was helped by six Mitchell errors. Porter Geppert drove in the team's only run. On the mound, Landen Soulek took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) in a four-inning start. He also struck out a pair of batters.

Yankton 13, Mitchell Black 2

Mitchell Black got on the board first, but were ultimately haunted by nine errors in a tournament-opening loss to Yankton.

Hudson Haley put Mitchell up 1-0 on an RBI ground ball in the bottom of the first inning, but the Lakers came back with four runs in the top of the second to seize control of the game.

Lukas Bennett and Dylan Soulek both went 2-for-3, while Soulek added an RBI.

Rugby Ryken was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for Yankton and Garrett Nelson got the win on the mound after allowing two earned runs on six hits in seven innings, while fanning eight.
