Mitchell teams win at state Special Olympics basketball tournament

PIERRE--Four Mitchell Special Olympics teams won first place in their divisions at the Special Olympics South Dakota State Basketball Tournament this past weekend in Pierre.

PIERRE-Four Mitchell Special Olympics teams won first place in their divisions at the Special Olympics South Dakota State Basketball Tournament this past weekend in Pierre.

Members of the Mitchell White team, which won the gold medal in its division, are Ian Ames, Matt Baysinger, Davis Cowins, Shelby Hasner, Chris Heckenliable, Tasha Ottmar, Matthew Putnam and Matt Tietz. The coach is Randy Kurth.

The Mitchell Black Unified team won first place in its division. Team members are Thy Chum, Mike Determan, Laura Feller and Jerry Vobr. Unified partners are Jerimy Bultje, Devrin Clark, Zach Eckberg and Amber Erickson. The coach is Rod Clarambeau.

In another division, the Mitchell Gold Unified team earned the gold medal. Team members are Ryan Collins, Scott Goldammer, Matt Hasner, Aaron Krouse, Luke Nagel and Bret Pederson. Unified partners are Anthony Bear Robe, Ryan DeBoer, Chris Kauk and Erik Kurth. The coach is Phil Collins.

The Mitchell Junior Unified team won first place in its division. Team members are Paul Bauman, Christina Fuoss-Dickson, Anthony Kelly, Jeff Petersen and Angie Semmler. Unified partners are Kelsey Dahme, Kolton Fisher, Ashlyn Kaul, Colby Oetken and Kolton Stuckey. The coach is Larry Stuckey.

The Mitchell Yellow team earned sixth place in its division. Team members are Tom Archambeau, Kyle Clarambeau, Emilie Cummings, Logan Desmond, Kaitlyn Putnam, Caitlyn Sampson, Carissa Vobr and Tiffany Vobr. The coach is Marie Kurth.

The Mitchell spirit squad won the silver medal in its division. Team members are Bryton Cummings, Harley Johnson, Lori Sievert, Mona Skidmore and Sara Tackett. The coach is Ann Bauman.
