Three champions were crowned at the Take the Cake doubles tennis tournament, hosted by the Mitchell Tennis Association Saturday, Aug. 7 at Hitchcock Park. The tournament awards a cake or cupcake to the placewinners in the final matches of each bracket, which baked by the MTA.
In the German Chocolate Cake bracket, Scott and Tyler Loecker, of Mitchell, claimed the title with a 8-5 victory over Aidan and Dodd DeBoer of Sioux Falls. The pairing of Chris Carlson and Jordan Reimnitz took third place.
Ryan Adrian and Jai Mimmack, both of Mitchell, lost just four points across three matches on their way to first place in the Carrot Cake bracket. Brad Osterloo and Pete Spates fell 8-1 to Adrian and Mimmack in the championship match, taking home second place while Hay Klu Moo and Lay Kpah Wah, both of Huron, finished third.
Lincoln Bottum and Sam Mullenmeister, both of Mitchell, won the Angel Food bracket with a 8-2 victory against Dylan and Kaden Putnam. Caden Olegario and Gerald Prewett rounded out the top three pairs.
