Mitchell Legion team beats Huron

The Mitchell Legion baseball team scored runs in the first four innings to help overcome some late-inning struggles to defeat Huron 10-6 Monday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

The Mitchell Legion baseball team scored runs in the first four innings to help overcome some late-inning struggles to defeat Huron 10-6 Monday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

"We had a couple of lapses both physically and mentally late in the game," Mitchell coach Luke Norden said.

Mitchell plated three runs in the first and third innings and led 7-0 after the third and 9-1 after four innings.

"We do a good job jumping on teams," Norden said. "We've got to put that pressure on all game."

Josh Schmidt picked up the win on the mound, throwing five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out five.

Kirby Fuerst went 2-for-4 for Mitchell with two RBIs and Matt Larson added two hits in the game.

Larson also pitched the final four frames.

Mitchell improved to 3-0 with the win and takes on Sioux Falls East Wednesday in Sioux Falls.
