The Mitchell High School girls golf team fought to a fourth-place finish at the Watertown Quadrangular on Monday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course with a team score of 193. The invitational was supposed to be an 18-hole event, but cold weather reduced the meet to a nine-hole tournament.

"We actually played pretty well today," Mitchell head coach Keri Munsen said. "We had a couple bad holes, but you take those away and the girls did very well."

Brookings won the invitational with a 165, followed by Madison (184) and Watertown (191). Brookings' Brooke Piearson and Madison's Samantha Langford tied for the individual title, with each shooting a 40. Kailee Henglefelt led Mitchell with a 45, while Ashley Zimmer and Jordyn Cranny shot a 49 each.

"Kailee played very well," Munsen said. "She started out a little rocky but seemed to pull it together after that. Three of our six golfers shot in the 40s, so that was nice."

The Kernels are back in action at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.
