Mitchell Gold splits twin bill with Renner

RENNER--Mitchell Gold's bats woke up in Game 2 of a Thursday doubleheader against Renner. It resulted in a 4-0 loss in the first game and 10-4 victory in Game 2.

RENNER-Mitchell Gold's bats woke up in Game 2 of a Thursday doubleheader against Renner. It resulted in a 4-0 loss in the first game and 10-4 victory in Game 2.

Mitchell trailed 4-3 heading into the fourth inning of the second game when it scored seven runs on seven hits over the next two innings. Ty Neugebauer and Landon Waddell both had RBI doubles.

Jackson Ebert went 3-for-4, while Jace Larson, Mason Geraets and Riley McGinnis all had two hits. Mitchell finished with 13 hits as a team. Neugebauer also earned the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits in a four-inning start. Waddell threw two shutout frames to end the game.

In Game 1, Mitchell only managed three hits as it struck out five times in a shutout loss. Noah Hill, Larson and Ebert all had a hit for Mitchell.

Ethan Price was hurt by one big inning on the mound. Renner used two singles, a double and walk to power it to a four-run fourth frame, though only two runs were earned. Price struck out two and walked three batters in his four-inning start, too.

Mitchell (4-2-1) travels to Yankton for a Monday doubleheader.
