RAPID CITY -- Despite Taylor Volesky's 15 points, the Mitchell High School girls basketball team couldn't get past Rapid City Stevens on Saturday in Rapid City, falling 44-39.
"I thought we played pretty well," Mitchell head coach Wes Morgan said. "We did a good job of controlling the tempo and staying in the game. Stevens is really good, we had a chance at the end, but frankly we were probably a couple layups and free throws away from winning that game."
In addition to Volesky's effort, the Kernels (1-3) were led by Hallie Misiaszek, who had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
"She's starting to come into her own," Morgan said. "(Hallie) continues to show improvement, she did a great job rebounding and brought a lot of energy for us today."
Both teams shot 26 percent from the floor, and the Raiders (2-1) had nine assists to the Kernels' one.

Taylor Molstad led Rapid City Stevens with 19 points and four rebounds.
Mitchell plays Aberdeen Central at 7 p.m. on Jan. 2 in Mitchell.
