Mitchell boys golf finishes fourth at Brookings Invite

BROOKINGS — The Mitchell High School boys golf team put in another strong team effort Monday at the Brookings Invitational, finishing in a tie for fourth place as a team and placing three golfers in the top-20.

The Kernels shot 310, tying with Brandon Valley for the No. 4 team slot. Watertown was the winning team with a score of 298, followed by Harrisburg at 299, and Sioux Falls Lincoln at 302 for third place in the 14-team field.

Macon Larson was the top Kernel scorer on the day, shooting a 6-over-par 76 for a tie in 11th place. Lincoln Bates was tied for 15th after a round of 77, while Ashton Reimnitz was tied for 19th with a round of 78. Noah Larson shot a round of 79, good for T23 in the individual scoring.

Also competing for Mitchell was Asher Dannenbring, who was tied for 32nd with an 81, and Jackson Childs, who was tied for 48th with a round of 84.

Watertown's Jake Olson was the individual medalist, shooting a 3-under round of 67 to win by four shots over Sioux Falls Lincoln's Bennett Geraets and Huron's Landon Roberts, who each shot 71.

Mitchell will host its annual home Mitchell Invitational on Friday at Lakeview Golf Course. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
